Well, I've experienced toxic shock syndrome twice. It came on out of nowhere, had sudden urges of feeling like I needed to stretch my muscles really bad, uncontrollably bad. I had a sudden fever with the chills, you feel very cold due to low blood pressure. I had severe pain in my muscles and I felt like I kept clenching my whole body. Dehydration and headache set in. It's a horrible feeling of nausea, headache, uncontrollable shivering and clenching of your muscles, and rapid heartbeat. It's a horrible feeling.

Our daughter just had flu like symptoms with toxic shock syndrome. She was dizzy, nauseous, and had a headache. She wasn't eating or drinking and I hadn't seen her even get up to go to the bathroom. I asked her if she had a tampon in as I knew it was that time, just for hygiene sake, and I had her get up and put a pad on while she was sick. I went to work and in the morning we were debating whether to bring her in or let it run its course. I was never one to run my kids in, and she didn't have insurance at the time. It is only by the good fortune we decided to bring her in. She didn't want to go, but if she tried to stand she got so dizzy! I promised her we'd get her there keeping her horizontal. So I got a sled and we pulled her out of the house and into the back of the van. The doctor saved her life! She had her on 5 different antibiotics before the ambulance took her to the children's hospital! She could have died because I saw her eyes rolling back in her head as she lay on the couch!

I experience toxic shock syndrome with every period and I never wore tampons in my life. I experience pain in abdomen, low blood pressure, chills, high fever, lightheadedness and vomiting. I experience this on my first day of period. I notice it happens when I don't pay attention to what I eat (especially when I eat cheese a lot) and when I don't move around. Thank goodness it is only one day!

During every period I get a bumpy, red, itchy rash in and around my belly button. I asked the doctor and he said he thought it is eczema. However, when I consulted with him I did not yet conclude that it occurs during every menstrual cycle. I wonder if it is possibly toxic shock syndrome. I don’t have any of the other symptoms, besides abdominal pain during the first 2 days of my cycle.

I experienced severe upper stomach pain in my back and shoulders severe dehydration, vomiting, restlessness. It is almost unbearable. I have found that drinking water will help to promote the vomiting and alleviate the stomach pain a little faster. I do get a headache and it generally takes three days after the episode to feel better. My advice to others is to stop using tampons. This is what brings on TSS. I also take an antibiotic for a few weeks to make sure I have no infections. I have to say this is the worst pain I have ever felt. I have had this quite a few times. Each time it seems to get a little worse even if I wait two years to use tampons again I always get TSS. No more tampons for me

My daughter died of TSS last June. She was only wearing a regular absorbency tampon and changed them like clockwork for fear of TSS. She started in the afternoon with vomiting, and a high temp, Ibuprofen took the temp to normal right away. The next day she had diarrhea and the next morning she woke up hurting all over her body. We went to the ER where her kidneys were already in failure. The next day she had Adult respiratory Distress syndrome and began having heart attacks. She died that night.

I also had sepsis along with the toxic shock syndrome my symptoms before the doctors knew what I had were low blood pressure, high temp, delirious and confusion. I ended up in the hospital for 4 weeks and a nursing home for 2 months. The total effects were I lost all of my hair, on a ventilator for 4 weeks, induced coma for 3 weeks, kidney failure, resp. failure, nerve damage, drop foot, a trachea for 4 weeks, feeding tube for 8 weeks. I feel I lost 2 months of my life, I don't remember a lot of it. I forgot things like my grandbabies and others it’s been a really slow progress I been working at bettering myself for 18 months now and I still have a lot of problems. Please wear gloves in a working situation at work or at home and wash your hands all the time, mine started with a scratch around my right middle finger and it turned into this. I still cannot bend that finger. I also could not go up or down stairs for 9 months, drive for 10 months, walk for 6 months and etc. Please take care of yourselves. A few people told me that I'm their living miracle. I don't know this is a awful disease.
