I have just been diagnosed with strep throat. This is my 2nd time in years. It is certainly the worst feeling ever. My throat felt as if it was on fire and my ears hurt and I had a fever. I had to go to the emergency room at 5:30 am. They gave me Keflex and advised not to go to work, to take ibuprofen, drink lots of fluids and rest. It was so painful to swallow I wanted to cry every time I tried

I was diagnosed with strep about a week ago, I had horrible pain and swelling in my neck. I received 500 mg amoxicillin for a ten day treatment which seemed to do the trick but my tonsils were still red and swollen after the treatment finished. Now, three days later, I have strep again but it came back much quicker and is just as painful. Today I received a penicillin shot in my hip (ouch), prednisone steroid for swelling, as well as codeine and Robitussin to help with pain and trouble sleeping. Here's hoping this does the trick.

Oh my goodness, at age 59 I can't believe children endure this strep throat. I have never had anything like this. Painful but after starting antibiotics relief was actually pretty quick. I felt silly going to doctor for a sore throat, so glad my husband insisted.

My Dr. told me that there is nothing he can really give me for the Strep Throat; however, I must take an antibiotic so it does not affect my kidney or my liver. He said I should also take something over the counter for the discomfort (Advil, Tylenol or something). I'm taking Azithromycin for antibiotic and Advil for the discomfort. Apparently, Strep Throat must take its course. I take Advil and then I drink lots of water and eat. Without something to soothe the pain I would dehydrate from not drinking. I caught this from utensils in a public place. I wish it were different but it is what it is.

I was given a 10 day dose of penicillin and told to throw out the toothbrush as to not have recurring episodes. I was also told to wash the bedding in hot water to get rid of any of the germs after the first 24 hours were up.

This is seriously the worst sore throat I have ever had. The right side of my face, my ear and throat are on fire! I went to ER in pain. The doctor gave me Omnicef.

I received the three day dose of Azithromycin. I don't know if it is working yet, I still feel a pain like knives or razor blades in the back of my throat when I swallow water. Also, my nose is red and dry even though it is BARELY running. It is very sore.

Yesterday, my doctor gave me a steroid shot and a 10-day course of amoxicillin. I am feeling a little better, but not 100%. This is by far the worst sore throat ever.

I'm 60 years old and this is the first time I've had strep throat. The doctor gave a big old needle of penicillin, plus 500mg three times a day of the same for 10 days.

I went to see my doctor after an entire night of suffering a severe headache and sore throat, unbelievable body aches, and a fever of 101. She gave me Amoxicillin XR 1000/62.5mg tablets (horse pills) and Ibuprofen 800mg tablets. I started feeling better two days later.

I went to the clinic 2 days after the symptoms started and the Doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 500mg as the antibiotic (as well as 1 Tylenol and 3 Advil every 4-6 hours) and an oral rinse to take the pain away. Both have worked perfectly.

Strep throat sucks. I am 35 and have never had strep before. This is very painful. I was at work in the morning and by the early evening my sore throat had progressed so much that I was nearly crying. Went to the doctor a day later, assuming I had strep, he gave me a culture test, positive for strep, he gave me a script for penicillin.

Never experience anything like this before! What the doctor prescribed for me is azithromycin. It's for 5 days but keeps working 6-10 days afterwards. Just want to get better. I don't have my tonsils anymore so, it's definitely been a experience I don't want to go through EVER again!

Comment from: 25-34 Female (Patient) Published: July 21

I was put on amoxicillin and I was told to take Tylenol to help reduce the swelling so I could eat and drink.

Comment from: Ssutton, 25-34 Female (Patient) Published: May 18

I took Amoxicillin for 10 days, and it came back one week after I finished it. Then I was on a Z-pak and that didn't take my symptoms away. Then they put me on Augmentin. I hope it does it this time. I've been battling this for a month.

I was given a 10 day amoxicillin, after 3 days I was not feeling any better, so I decided to double the amount prescribed,(it was over the weekend) I am on the 5th day, the pain is not as intense but I don't feel that I am cured yet, my throat is still tender to touch. Waiting to hear from my doctor about the possibility of getting another type of medication.
