My 14 year old daughter contracted strep throat. It started out with a mild sore throat, the next day to chills with no fever along with soreness of throat worsening. The following early morning she awoke with severe headache and chills. I took her to the emergency room, she also had a temperature at this time of over 101. Her throat was swabbed and positive for strep. She was treated with amoxicillin and pain/fever reliever, Tylenol. It is now almost 7:00 pm, and after three doses of amoxicillin with Tylenol, she is up and about, feeling much better.

I developed post strep reactive arthritis after contacting strep throat. It was an extremely painful condition where the body’s defense mechanism goes into overdrive trying to rid your body of the disease and starts attacking your joints. The pain migrated from one joint to the next. It took my doctor 6 weeks to find out what was wrong. Then I had to be on antibiotics for a year. Some websites say it is a variant of rheumatic fever but without the rash. Did I mention it was extremely painful!

My son had strep and had no symptoms, it showed protein in his urine. Then the doctor ordered bloodwork and it showed positive for strep; she didn't know what she was looking for except he has protein in urine. And she had a panel done. Now he is on antibiotics for 10 days, with blood pressure and urine test for the next 3 weeks. They found streptococcal glomerulonephritis.
