What treatment have you received for a peritonsillar abscess? Submit Your Comment
My experience with peritonsillar abscess began with sore strep throat, accompanied by fevers and pain swallowing, but that subsided with antibiotics and a steroid. While still on my course of amoxicillin, it came back but only on my left side. The tonsil was huge. Hardly able to speak, I saw urgent care. They gave me 2 shots, but to no avail. This morning I was in the emergency room (ER), hooked up to IV with more antibiotics and steroids. I went to the ENT and had my tonsil drained but it swelled up before bed time and burst.
My peritonsillar abscess was treated with drainage by scalpel and a round of painkillers and antibiotics.
