Acupuncture is just an elaborate placebo. It doesn’t matter where you poke the needles, or even if needles are inserted; twirling toothpicks on the skin has the same effect. Acupuncture is not a sterile procedure; it is performed on skin that is not cleaned, with ungloved hands. Infection is a very real risk, and so is organ perforation which has killed patients. No one agrees on where the acupuncture points are, and no one has ever measured “qi.” In addition, acupuncture needles are painful and the procedure causes nausea and vomiting, don’t do it, it isn’t smart.
