I am suffering from pain on my right knee since two months back. It aches and feels like fever in it! It has given way on me three times! Sometimes it aches and that includes pain in the front of the leg (shin splints type) and ankle! My doctor felt it and said most likely it is arthritis. I am a walker doing about 3 miles daily before this!

I am 64, in great health, jumped over a 3 ft. dog gate. I have done it many times, but today I had sandals and the gate and I fell hard on ceramic tile. I had instant sharp pain in my right knee about 3 or 4. A little later I had hot pain, it hurt to get up and walk. I put diclofenac sodium gel 1 percent, and 2 hours later, it feels stiff, with 2 or 3 pain.

I hurt my knee getting up off the floor from kneeling position. When I stood up I heard a pop. I was at the hospital 2 times. The 1st time the hospital took x-rays, the 2nd time they took a CT scan. Neither test showed any damage. The hospital sent me home unable to walk or stand. Now I can't get to the car to go to a different hospital.

I was lying on a wooden shelf in a cupboard, playing hide and seek with my son, and as I went to get out the shelf collapsed and I landed in the fetal position. Now, the next day, the left side of my leg from the top thigh to below my kneecap is bruised purple, and my kneecap on the side is sore to touch. There are dents in it and my knee is swollen. I haven’t been to the hospital but think I have chipped the kneecap.

I'm 48 years old. In July I slipped over, broke my left rib and also fell on my left knee but didn't get an x-ray. Now for 6 weeks I have been in intense pain, every time I sit down and go to get up I have to have 5 to 10 minutes before I can move. To put my knee straight too is a pain that I cannot describe to tell you. It's that painful it brings tears in my eyes. I also cannot stand on my leg for more than 5 minutes nor can I bend my legs. Also my ankle has been swollen for 6 weeks.

I fell at work. My foot got caught in a call light cord. I fell directly on my right knee. The knee was painful. It was red and swollen. I could hardly bear it going up stairs. It took months to be able to function normally. Years after this incident my leg was swollen so badly I went to the emergency room. They said it was a Baker’s cyst and I explained to them I was spiking temperatures as high as 102 in the evening. Temperatures varied during the evening and night. Sometimes only 101. It happened again this week, high temperature and painful knee.

One month ago, I slipped over at a shopping center, and fell on my knees and chest. Twenty days after my chest was in pain on my left side, and my hand was in pain too. I went to the hospital to find out after an x-ray and was told I had fractured my left rib under my breast. Three weeks on I felt a throbbing in my left leg and my ankle was swelling up, when I sit down or lie down it takes me 10 minutes to stand on my leg. It's intense, the pain in my knee, I feel like I'm going to fall, it's that painful.

I met with an accident when I was on my bike and injured my knee. The bike jumped through a breaker and fell on my right knee, so my bike's weight was on me, and my friend's weight too. I tried to stand up but was not able to stand as I felt like I was falling down.

I fell directly on my knee, and it has been hot and swollen for one week. It is bruised and painful with weight bearing activities even with RICE treatment.

I fell on my knee 4 days ago. They x-rayed if and now my entire leg and foot are swollen twice their size. I am wondering if I could have a serious injury threat the x-ray missed.

My knee injury was during an intimate moment. My leg was forced down one way my knee went another way. Then I heard a very loud pop! I grabbed my leg right away and told him I think there's something wrong with my knee. When I got home I was in pain, I had a lot of swelling under my kneecap area with bruising in that area as well. I have been icing it, then heat pad. I force myself to walk on it on my tippy toes. Due to pain and stiffness I can’t walk normally. It happened a few weeks ago.

I was putting a fitted sheet on a king-size bed yesterday. I must have without realizing put the weight on the side of my knee as I leaned over to put the sheet over the corner of the mattress. The side of my knee gave way with pain. I haven’t been to the hospital yet. I’m putting ice packs on, and also a knee brace. I can’t weight bear on it, and it is very painful. There’s a bit of swelling but no bruising. I will see how it goes over the weekend. If not better I will go to the hospital on Monday.

I played with my dog with a soccer ball which got my left knee twisted. I could not walk, it is painful and swollen. I consulted the doctor and went for scan but found nothing. I still got pain and swelling and can't do anything working around normal. Once I tried to do more work I got so much pain and swelling. The pain is so bad like it is drilling your knee. I am scheduled for MRI check next week. I feel hopeless and I cannot walk properly and bear the pain. It is 4 months now from the date of my injury.

I was fine all morning, I sat at my desk for over an hour, and noticed my knee felt swollen. I tried to straighten it, but couldn't. I tried to get up, but couldn't bear weight on it. The doctor says it's a soft tissue injury, just wish I knew how I'd injured it!

Comment from: PrettyFatJack, 55-64 Male (Patient) Published: March 24

It started with some soreness to the inner upper part of my knee. I never had a knee injury and did not think anything of it. I could not figure out how it happened. Then it got worse and extended into a larger area. But still I did not think anything of it. Then I climbed into bed on that one knee. I am big fella, going about 425 pounds, well it became very clear very quickly how I had been causing the injury to my knee. It pretty much sounds like what they describe here. My knee feels unstable. It is difficult going up stairs, almost impossible to go down stairs. I am avoiding it, but I may have to go to the doctor. On the farm my dad always said, if you can get out of bed go to work. If you cannot get out of bed, go to the doctor. We don't go to the doctor much.

I fell down a 4 x 4 cold air vent and hurt my knee. Now I can hardly walk on my left leg. It is still swollen and hurts badly. All the doctor did was give me water pill. It is still swollen up, and this has been over 1 year now, no better.

I landed on one knee in my gravel driveway and had my body weight and another person on my back. It hurt forever and now it just pops up out of nowhere from time to time. I’ve never been to the doctor for it.

I was at the beach. I fell three times on Monday, two falls downstairs and one fall in the pool down the stairs. My knee is bruised and swollen right now and I have a lot of pain. I have not been to go to the doctor yet, just got home last night.

I fell at work onto concrete floor my right knee taking all the force. My knee swelled up for a week but no movement problems. Three weeks since and I have a hard tendon across the face of my knee and it burns when I lightly bump into something.

I fell on the pavement (hard) and scraped up my hand and toe, but mainly I did a number on my knee. Nothing is broken but the knee is swollen, bruised and has two large scabs on it. What I have developed is a low grade fever since this.

In 1979 I got my left knee and right shoulder sprained in a badminton tournament. Natural treatments were given by the doctor and I became okay. After about 30 years I started feeling a little stiffness in those joints. Now I am having occasional pains while walking after a break. I am retired mining engineer and used to do a lot of physical activities.

I twisted my knee while in the lift line. I fell back with my skis on and heard a little pop. My MCL is stretched for sure, but I can walk and don't have much pain. My knee feels unstable on the inner side.

I injured my knee during kickboxing and repeated roundhouse kicks to a padded bag. I didn't feel any injury until days later. The pain only occurs after I sit for a period of time and try to stand. I feel pain in the outside back portion of my knee joint. When I stand and walk a few steps, the pain subsides. I'm seeing a chiropractor for therapy. Short of an MRI, he thinks is a bursa issue.

I fell flat after slipping off a curb. It did not hurt but did start to swell after I got home. Used ice, on and off, all night and most of next morning, then went to work. It started to bruise, with the bruising going down.

I suffered an impact knee injury playing soccer four weeks ago. Basically the whole knee joint opened up, then swelled some 30 minutes post-trauma. I went to A & E and medial ligament damage was diagnosed. An X-ray was carried out even though I knew this wouldn’t achieve anything. I was told I would be playing again in three to four weeks. Four weeks later, the area is still sore and there is no way I can do any sort of lateral movement.

I got tackled playing American football. There were a few popping sounds and my knee cap on my left leg ended up on the left side of my leg. I straightened my leg out and my knee cap went back in. Pain was very bad. I got put in a cast for a week and a bit, now I'm in a removable splint.

I am 76 yrs old and about one month ago I had a fall. I came down but at the time I wasn't aware that my knee was involved. It was maybe ten days when I noticed some swelling, not a lot, and soreness developed. It is not getting any better.

I fell off a curb about ten days ago by not watching where I was walking. I saw a doctor and he suggested I wear a non-fitted brace which I have, on and off. The injured leg appears somewhat swollen at this time. I treated the injury with rest and ice for three days after the fall. Since then, I've walked for an hour in a swimming pool three different times hoping to relieve the problem in time for my trip to NY in late May.

I fell and landed on my right knee. There is much pain, some swelling, some warmth. I have difficulty walking. Going up and down stairs causes great pain. I cannot decide if I should have it looked at or not. It happened on Tuesday. It is now Friday at about 3:30 pm. Maybe it will get better on its own. Maybe with the weekend coming up, I should have it checked. I’ve been alternating ice and heat.

I have a football injury. The pain is on the left knee, and hurts most when I change directions when I walk. The pain hurts for a few seconds and I can't straighten the leg properly. It happened last night and I’m struggling with the normal day so far.

I was carrying the vacuum cleaner downstairs. The lead went under my foot, causing it to slip. I fell sideways. I was unable to move or straighten my leg (because of the width of the stairs) which was feeling painful at the knee. The vacuum cleaner was lying on top of me. The doctor barely looked at it, never touched it. Asked me if it was swollen then told me it was age related.

I fell off my scooter two months ago and was admitted to the hospital. They diagnosed me with ACL and MCL injury. Put me in a knee brace and sent me home. I was seen in an clinic later, had an MRI Scan that showed a ruptured ACL, grade 3 Tear MCL, torn lateral meniscus, dislocation, and femoral condyle fracture, bone edema, and bone bruising. I have been treated conservatively for four months in a hinged knee brace. I had ACL reconstruction, repair of MCL as it failed to heal, and suture of meniscus as this also failed to heal. I was in a brace for two weeks with no physical therapy.

I have worked for 2 years with personal trainer. Switched from free weight training to goal of muscle building with heavier weights 6 months ago with great results. Take two 30 minute private boxing lessons per week and then weight train for 90 minutes overseen by same trainer plus workout another day without trainer but doing all. Two days ago while doing aerobic boxing warm ups -- on balls of feet with turning from boxing positions of feet to crossing of legs and reps of 40. Rested and started second set and landed "wrong" on left. IMMEDIATE PAIN behind left knee and a giving out but did not fall. Unable to bear full weight on straightened left leg. Can do so with partial weight and PAIN. MORE PAIN if I try to push off from left leg to walk and can only do so with a lot of assistance. Always able to bend at knee but unable to straighten or bear weight when straightened. Worse next day. Dr. examined the next morning physically only and asked questions. Said it was tendon behind my knee that controls the calf muscle. Didn't see anything about that in all the above reading. Doing RICE. Oh, cannot do stairs as cannot bear weight on left leg enough. Ride horses and very, very fit and love my boxing lessons and weight building. Drink/eat lots of protein. Very bummed at a break in riding horses and training. Wish I could know more precisely what is wrong.

About 6 months ago we moved and I was carrying boxes down 3 flights of stairs...knee started hurting and there was swelling behind my knee. Now I'm helping my son rehab his house and knee started hurting again, same swelling, but today cannot walk on my right leg. I cannot feel any swelling; leg (knee) feels better keeping it bent at right angle. Straightening is excruciating. Have watched my soccer playing children have both acl repair and meniscus repair, this is nothing I have ever seen.

I had a knee injury since the beginning of February 2011. I have gone to see a physiotherapist but still there was no change then he took to the specialist then the specialist said I must do an operation which I can't afford. I am a 20 year old guy I'm a soccer player, talented but not just only talented I've got soccer intelligence. What I am scared of is that if I do operation I will never get back on track the knee will always be a trouble so I wanted to know the disadvantages of the knee operation.

I was told by a doctor that I have a sprained knee. It has been almost a month. I have a light purple line below the knee. It hurts if I’m standing or walking for a length of time.
