I was in elementary school when diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. In pre-school years I had hip pain, but do not recall what the diagnosis was for that. My most vivid remembrance during elementary school was lying in bed with such agonizing pain in my toes and feet and not being able to move to get the sheet off for fear of causing more pain. I know my knee(s) were involved also. I recall warmth and swelling in the knees being noted. I was treated with ASA (acetylsalicylic acid) and had many pain-free years.

My daughter 14 is constantly having joint pains and no diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis yet but wanted to see how other kids learned about theirs and their symptoms.
