I had a tremendous amount of pain and swelling around the injury and the large hematoma became infected. The doctor gave me a shot that had to be injected into my hip very slowly and it stung and burned like the entire hip and leg was on fire. I was prescribed ten days of some sort of anti-bacterial pills and antibiotics. It's been over six months and there is a dent in my leg with a large scar in the middle of the dent and discoloration that the doctor says probably won't fade completely.

My hematoma occurred 7 days ago in the outpatient center. I went for a breast biopsy. The doctor clipped a blood vessel during biopsy. She proceeded to apply pressure until bleeding stopped. It continued to swell and harden. She had me admitted to the emergency room for the night to monitor with additional x-rays and ultrasounds. It is very hot to the touch and the bruise is starting to change colors only on the outer edge. I am miserable sleeping. A sports bra helps keeping compression on it with ice.

I was in a car accident in November. I had a huge hematoma on my right upper thigh, the size was 8 x 5 x 3 inches. It was a giant bruise, from being rear ended at 70 mph and pushed into a tow truck. I was passenger and while the hematoma has diminished, it is still there. I cannot sleep on my right side or it hurts and my leg goes numb. Doctor is monitoring but I may need surgery to clean it out.

Back on New Year's 2011 I was the victim of a hit and run. A 2000 Pontiac Minivan struck me while I was crossing the street, at 70 mph. A lot was caused from this including me living with a plate and a shunt, but this post is for this large lump on my outer thigh from where I was hit. I'm almost sure it is a hematoma even though I remember them saying “muscle bunching” back then even though it's clearly not. This lump has been here for 8 years! I wonder if anyone else has had a lump for that long.

I met with an accident and there was a slight cut in the right side of the abdomen where it got swollen. After the ultra sound report the doctor said that it was hematoma.

I had back fusion surgery on three levels in my lower back 46 days ago. I was released after spending four days in the hospital with a very large hematoma the size of a large melon on my side, at the entry site for the surgery. I was told this would dissipate in about six weeks internally by itself. Because I have had to wear a back brace, and will continue to wear this brace for at least six more weeks, the incision was not able to heal. I had to have home nurse care as the hematoma slowly bled out as it was forced to be pressed down into my body. At this time the hematoma has gone down to the size of an apple and the incisions have healed. So now I hope that the rest of this mass does continue to dissipate as it was supposed to do from the beginning. And I am also past the six week time frame that I was given that it would take to dissipate.

I am on warfarin and was having acupuncture for restless legs syndrome. My INR (international normalization ratio) went up and I had a bleed forming a hematoma in my left leg. This was at the site where they always put the needles. I also have a lump on top of my skull where they put the needles and for the last several weeks I have been having a lot of neck pain.

I had a stimulator put in my back and took it easy (well pretty much) for a month. One night I was having trouble falling asleep so I was doing a lot of tossing and turning in bed and got up to get a drink and when I laid back down I felt a large bulge in my back. Went to the ER and was in lots of pain, they said it was a friction hematoma and that it would most likely be absorbed back into my body and to see my surgeon the next day. (I didn't.)
