I am a testosterone user for 29 years now (48 years old). I’ve been doing phlebotomies now for several years - 1 unit monthly. Now my ferritin has dropped to 6. So my doctor has advised me to stop doing the phlebotomies to elevate my ferritin along with a prescribed iron supplement. I had my hematocrit checked last week and it was 60! Now I’m very concerned because I’m on the danger zone for stroke/heart attack. My doctor is doing a complete blood work up on me in 8 days. Hope it’ll be good news.

My high hematocrit level (56.2 percent) is a result of supplemental testosterone gels used to bring my testosterone levels up into a normal range for my age. Since I'm an ex-cancer patient, I can't just go and donate a unit of blood. Frustrating dilemma.

I am 36 year old (male). I have been experiencing chest pain for almost 8 months, and had gone for an x- ray. The report on the x-ray by my doctor says it is good. But when blood was checked, my hematocrit was found to be too high, which shows 60.9. I want to know what I should do to bring my hematocrit to normal range other than exercising, drinking enough water and eating good things. I am checking if there are any medicines to treat it. Wonder if high hematocrit can lead to chest pain for a longer period. As per ECG I am good.

The doctor has said that I have a high reading of hematocrit after analyzing my blood sample. The doctor said I am a smoker but I am not. However I stay in a room sharing with friends who were heavy smokers.
