I have had 3 episodes of gastrointestinal bleeding in which I required 6, 13, and 5 units of blood. Diagnostic tests of colonoscopy, endoscopy, video capsule endoscopy and CT angiogram, have not revealed the exact source(s) of bleeding. A couple of spots found to be oozing blood were clipped during one of the colonoscopies. We are now considering provocative angiography.

I had to take prasugrel (a blood thinning medicine) and aspirin following a heart attack. After 5 months I developed stomach ache. I was given esomeprazole at high dose. But after almost a month I vomited black coffee like liquid. I was taken to the emergency room and found to be suffering from acute stomach (gastrointestinal) bleeding. The doctors decided it was as a consequence of my medication, and changed them.

I had a colonoscopy done on August 31 and the doctor removed three polyps, two large and one small. Everything was fine until later on that night when I began to bleed from my rectum huge amounts of blood and clots that went on all night. I felt fine so I didn't go to the emergency room (ER). The next morning I ended up in the ER for 8 hours. I got 2 tap water enemas and another colonoscopy to repair what didn't heal where the doctor removed the biggest polyp. I was sent home right away since the bleeding stopped and my blood counts were normal. Through it all I never felt bad at all which surprises me. I swore I'd never get another colonoscopy but I decided I will do it again in 3 years.

My husband died from gastrointestinal bleeding, which I sincerely believe was caused by all the medications he was taking.

I ended up in the hospital and received 3 units of blood. The bleeding has stopped, but no cause was found. I had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and CT.
