I tried the cotton pad soaked in a mix of coconut oil (I had MCT -- medium-chain triglyceride -- a liquid form) and several drops of tea tree. I left it against the cyst for two sets of 30-45 minutes and it drained before I took a bath. I am so glad to have this remedy as I have visited my obstetrician/gynecologist 2 times now and we were going to try marsupialization next which doesn't seem to solve it permanently. The above was much less painful than office visit and way cheaper. I thought I'd need to wait a few days but took hours. Lifesaver!

I have had these Bartholin cysts for 6 years. I tried tea tree oil, witch hazel, calamine oil, sitz baths with Epsom salt, etc. I had a balloon put in, and that helped for a few years. Not much worked for me, until I found it! One thing I've learned is, it has to get worse before it's better. Prid pulls out abscesses, and cysts. Rub it on the clogged opening. Spray a cotton pad with Schuessler tissue silica, put on, then fill a water bottle with hot water and apply over the top. Sitz bath once a day. It'll kill then pop a few days later.

I had a Bartholin cyst growing for over 2 weeks. I went to the general physician, and he gave me antibiotics. It did nothing, and the cyst was growing bigger every day. I tried everything, sitz baths, all the topical solutions and salts; heat wasn't helping anymore. Five days later, in excruciating pain, I went to the emergency room and got marsupialization under general anesthesia the next day (much relief). My cyst was 10 cm in diameter. I recommend any surgery straight away! I was incredibly scared, but it's over and done with, I can now walk, and I am happy.

Just experienced my 3rd Bartholin cyst. The witch hazel and heat worked to rupture it. It was the size of a large grape and the pain was horrendous. I now have a hole that is still oozing blood and pus 24 hours later. How long will the hole stay there! Trying to see my general physician during coronavirus lockdown is impossible.

I had a Bartholin cyst that burst on its own about a month ago. I have no pain left, but I still have to wear panty liners every day due to the leakage. I wonder how long that's supposed to last. Is this my life now! Never had any type of discharge after my hysterectomy 5 years ago and now I am constantly leaking after this thing.

I've just had my Bartholin cyst drained and I know have a balloon catheter in. I wonder how soon I can take a bath.

I got my Bartholin cyst in 2012 and it was really painful. I was lying down for 1 week before it burst. After that it has come about 10 times. I went to the hospital, they did surgery and I was okay then, but it came again and again. Someone took me to another hospital for a treatment but now it is gone, and I don't feel it there again. I am so thankful.

Showering using antibacterial Dial bar soap and taking 1000 mg vitamin C helped me get rid of a recurring Bartholin cyst. I had a small hole made after having it lanced, drained, and having a Word catheter put in about 7 years ago. So I would massage it to drain it from the little hole, then clean it up with the soap and it's finally gone!

I tried everything for my Bartholin cyst, from sitz baths multiple times a day, tea tree oil, heat packs, warm washes, etc. I just got a marsupialization today and it's the biggest relief of my life! I was at a pain level of 10 the past few days and now it's 1 due to the cut and stitches. Fingers crossed it doesn't come back or I'll definitely remove the whole gland.

Like others have mentioned, it's best to find a remedy to the Bartholin cyst as early as possible. Mine abscessed, but a few sitz baths (plus essential oils and Epsom salt) each day and witch hazel compresses worked for me. Last night, after a sitz bath, I drenched a few cotton balls with witch hazel and nested the cyst with them overnight. This morning, while rinsing off after my sitz bath, the cyst finally burst. I was so relieved. Drainage and catheter should be a last resort. Hope this was helpful! Be well.

Heat worked for my Bartholin cyst! I was in agony for days despite witch hazel and sitz baths. I had to make a four hour drive and spent the whole journey with the heated seat on high to try and relieve some of the pain. When I arrived and moved it popped with no more encouragement! I know what I'll be doing next time!

My Bartholin cyst was literally the size of a ping pong ball and felt like my private parts were going to blow up. The worst pain ever for 1 full day. I applied a cotton swab with water, then tea tree oil twice. I had hot baths and applied a thick layer of Prid twice. I woke up in the middle of the night in pain but found a white head had appeared. Barely pressed on it and the nasty infection oozed out. Smelled horrible! I feel so good and decided to post at 4:45 am, thank you ladies for all your advice.

I had to go to the emergency room as nothing worked for me. They ended up having to cut the Bartholin cyst open. Let me say something that nobody else is saying. When they stick the numbing needle into your area after it is already so tender, it burns really badly. The whole time the needle is in. But when he removed the needle it was numb and not hurting anymore. Then when he stuck the second needle in to drain it, it stung a very little bit. Didn't feel the cut or when he packed it. Now a few hours later, I am hurting a little.

I have had 3 Bartholin cysts in the past year. I find relief with heat, hand warmers work best. And this next thing I do comes from my Gramma and her Mammy. But I'm telling you it works! Take a raw piece of bacon and place it inside the vaginal opening so it is on top of the cyst/abscess and leave it for 1 or 2 days until it drains on its own.

Get the surgery if you have a reoccurring Bartholin cyst! I've had 3 in total on the same side. I tried avoiding the doctor this past time and doing all of the remedies. It was an awful idea and just irritated the area even more. I was in so much pain! I went to the emergency room and said no to the Word catheter because I had a failed one on my second cyst and ended up getting the marsupialization. I cannot express how much better I feel. I hope this helps someone else.

I had a huge Bartholin cyst, so painful I cried. I did sitz baths, turmeric, and baking soda. It was so close to bursting but still wouldn't. I had to work even though the pain was so intense. I decided to stretch out a cotton ball and put hemp oil on it. I lifted the cyst up to put it under the lump, but as it hurt so much I decided to prop it up off my skin. Miraculously it burst in about one minute after doing that; so much relief!

I'm 26 and I've had 2 Bartholin cysts. The first one I never noticed until my boyfriend told me. I did a couple of sitz baths and it drained while I was lying down. The next one, which was recent, I started feeling pain in my vagina, I had a fever and back ache problems. I thought it was just my cycle until I noticed the area was very tender so immediately I started sitz baths, the pain was unbearable. The sitz baths weren't working like before and I infused it with tea tree oil for 6 days 3 to 6 times a day. Then I dipped a towel in hot water compressed the infected cyst and it finally drained.

Try having a Bartholin cyst drained at your doctor's office without anything for anesthesia! I felt everything from the scalpel puncturing my cyst to him stretching my punctured opening with hemostats so his Word catheter would fit properly because his puncture wasn't large enough for the catheter to fit. I walked out of the office looking like I had just delivered a baby, without any shoes on my feet. He told me the reason he didn't administer anesthesia was because it would hurt worse than the procedure.

Thank you all ladies for sharing! I woke in the early hours with pain just inside my vagina, Bartholin cyst abscess, I now know. Had heart racing and temperature, I took 2 paracetamol tablets, tried to sleep, and 3 hours later woke to throbbing down below. I went to the doctor's next day who examined me, and gave me antibiotics flucloxacillin 500 mg 4 times a day. This I feel is helping, but will be trying the sitz bath with sea salt, I've read about here, and hold witch hazel on a wet heated sterile gauze or something, and make sure it drains.

I'm 24 and been experiencing constant flare ups of my Bartholin cyst. I originally would always seek medical help, which had been some of the worst experiences I ever had. I recently popped my cyst due to fear and wanting to use a different approach. For 4 days I did sitz baths using 2 cups apple cider vinegar and 2 or 3 drops of tea tree oil, ibuprofen, boric acid (to prevent bacterial vaginosis) echinacea supplement capsules, and heating pad until the head of the cyst finally formed and popped! Painful, but brought instant relief.

I've had a reoccurring Bartholin cyst for over 2 years. I've undergone 3 marsupialization surgeries and 1 catheter insertion. Not one of these surgeries has worked. Having so many surgeries in such a short time has drained me physically and mentally. I can no longer enjoy sexual activities without being scared that I might end up in the hospital, or in pain for days. I'm going to try out the natural remedies, and if it doesn't work I'll have the gland removed. Thank you for making me feel like I'm not alone.

A Bartholin cyst came up a couple months ago. It didn't hurt, but I know it's from accidentally using a scented tampon. Months later it got big and painful. I used Prid, 1:1 THC/CBD salve (legal patient) preparation H wipes and cream, apple cider vinegar, a heavy antibiotic, drank water, and took baths with Epsom salt, pink Himalayan salt, baking soda, and tea tree oil. In 5 days it burst. Keep a wipe against the cyst to catch draining. Take all your antibiotics, it takes time to heal.

This is my 5th time now, the first two Bartholin cysts were awful for me, the second two dried up on their own, and the last one came out two days ago. I did sitz bath yesterday morning and I applied vinegar without diluting it. It was painful, I had to bear it, and it didn't burst. So later in the evening, I did sitz bath again and applied vinegar. The pain didn't let me leave the cotton ball on it, but I was so sure that if I do it will rupture. Then I applied vinegar another time, it ruptured, and then I did sitz bath.

I had my second Bartholin cyst abscess a week ago, so painful and a big ball. I couldn't wait and went in to the emergency room for incision and drainage. After 3 days it was coming up again, a big ball and painful, I was going to plan removal surgery, but in the morning I read the comments here and decided to try tea tree oil. I put the oil on a cotton pad and covered my cyst during the night. I woke up in the middle of the night and I was all wet. It helped me, my abscess is drained out, and I don't have any ball or pain right now.

I have never had a Bartholin cyst before. I got one around 3 days ago. First I didn't care but then I started feeling lots of pain, and discomfort. So, I took warm water bath for 20 to 30 minutes. I put coconut oil on overnight. I woke up today morning and saw it's burst, and bleeding. I am scared and not sure how to help myself to take care of this situation.

So thankful for this site. I have 2 kids and a partner who's working 12 hour shifts for the next few days. It's also a 5 week wait to get in to the doctors so hospital was almost the only choice until I read all the solutions Bartholin cyst here. My aunt has visited me overnight, so currently soaking makeup remover pad in water and tea tree oil mix, putting it on my cyst, and sitting on a heat pack. Don't know if it will work but it's relieving the pain! Dealing with the pain is all I need to do right now.

My Bartholin cyst showed up one day out of nowhere! It was not there one day then there the next. It burst the day I found it! It was all bright red blood. No pus or no pain or anything else. It was as big as a ping pong ball. I went to the doctor who gave me antibiotics, I used hot compresses, and nothing has helped! It is not getting bigger, it just stays there but I can feel it. It's also very hard. I heard these are common on older women over 60.

I got my first Bartholin cyst 7 days ago. It started off small and unnoticeable then turned into a golf ball size within 2 days. I was put on antibiotics, and after 3 days they started helping. During that time, I constantly had a heating pad on it and took 2 Epsom salt sitz baths a day. Both helped the pain and drainage enormously. Now, it's about the size of a marble, and I finally am starting to feel like myself again.

I tried all of the home remedies to get my Bartholin cyst to go away... Phoebe's cure, sitz baths, etc. Eventually the pain got so bad I literally couldn't walk. I ended up having to go to the emergency department. They drained it and it was immediate relief literally. The lidocaine injection was super painful to be honest, but in my opinion worth it. They did put in a Word catheter that's supposed to stay in for 2 weeks, so we'll see how that goes.

I drain my Bartholin cyst with a sterile syringe every few years. My gynecologist wasn't any help. I've done it around 5 times and get immediate relief. Everything has to be sterile. Mine is never infected. Just a nuisance to have a golf ball in your crotch.

Antibiotics and sitz bath work for me for Bartholin cyst. I suffer a lot of pain during the first 12 hours of antibiotics. It was hard for me do a sitz bath. But I pushed myself to keep doing. The next morning I was still in pain. But as soon as I took another sitz bath, it felt so much better.

I had a Bartholin cyst too, but after taking antibiotics prescribed by my gynecologist I was fine. But my affected labia became bigger than the other. It really bothers me and makes me uncomfortable.

I used witch hazel and aloe vera gel for my Bartholin cyst, and trust me, that works very fast. I didn't do much of sitz bath, I just focused on those 2 ingredients.

Comment from: Kelly222, 35-44 Female (Patient) Published: January 07

What worked for my Bartholin cyst was Phoebe's cure (witch hazel, calamine lotion and tea tree oil mixture). Putting this on the cyst/abscess for 20 minutes causes the infection to burst. The cyst still had infection though, so I put coconut oil on the cyst each night at bedtime, and the infection got better and less painful each day. I also used Phoebe's cure at least once a day during that week so that any infection would drain out each day and not build up.

My cyst became as large as an egg and the pain was unbearable. I had antibiotics for a week, finally mixed up some coconut oil and witch hazel, soaked four cotton balls, wrapped them in a warm washcloth and applied that for about 45 minutes. The sting was terrible, but about 5 hours later it had burst open and the pus and blood drained drastically. Such relief, I cried with joy knowing it worked!

I've had 5 Bartholin cysts that turned to abscesses the size of a golf ball each time, so painful I couldn't walk. Draining was the instant relief I needed in each occasion. I tried the tea tree oil and castor oil but they didn't work. Next time I'll try witch hazel. I also tried warm compresses but nothing made it drain on its own. I had to go to urgent care to get it drained, this last one that occurred 2 weeks ago. My obstetrician tells me that they never gave me antibiotics to treat the infection before.

I had this little ball a long time, I guess six years, and it started to grow about a week ago. Started to google Bartholin cyst and tried the turmeric and coconut oil, tried the sitz baths, tried the tea tree oil eventually, and the last three days the pain was immense. I woke the last two nights from the pain. Pain medicines take the edge off but warm compress and hot baths relieve the pain. It burst this morning. It is tremendous, the relief. I think all the treatments work but in the end it had to 'grow' its course. Good luck.

Currently I have a second infected Bartholin cyst (sad). I'm up to day 4. I had a fever for half a day, weird. I have 3 sitz baths (for as long as possible) a day with tea tree oil and salt, and then I use a heat pad. I also put tea tree oil on a cotton ball afterwards. It is currently the size of a golf ball but I can tell it's about to rupture. I really want to poke it but I don't want to make it worse. It is incredibly painful but you must go through the pain for it to get better! For your information, when I got the first cyst my age was 19, and I am currently 20.

I have a vaginal Bartholin cyst that feels like it is coming out every time I stand or walk. My doctor suggests an operation. I read through these comments on sitz baths. It's been 4 days now. I went to the pharmacy but there's no Epsom salt, so I ended up buying iodized salt. I squatted inside a big basin filled with warm water, plus a packet of salt since there's no tub at home. Nothing happened. When I woke up early next morning, the cyst had popped, with blood and pus. Thank goodness and thank you for sharing here.

Just noticed last night I had a Bartholin cyst on the let of my vagina. I woke up and it was gone (all I did was shower and wash well), but tonight I have one on the right side of my vagina. I tried the bath, alcohol (that hurt a lot), and washed with Vagisil soap and put Vagisil power on, before bed. I'm trying this for now and if it is not draining or not gone, I will try something else tomorrow. I'll submit another comment tomorrow.

I had one of these, never experienced a Bartholin cyst before. I am 38 so I feel lucky after reading all these posts! The hot water thing makes a huge difference, I don't have a bathtub so I have been having longer showers, as hot as I could stand. I wasn't sure that was going to work but I went to bed last night after having one and it finally burst after being infected and swollen for the last 4 days, very uncomfortable! Mine was more shaped like a peanut, so much relief after bursting!

Today makes it a week since I have had this Bartholin cyst. Stumbling across this site, I believe this is exactly what it is. I cry all day and night, it feels huge and I can't walk, sit or lie down without screaming. It stings really bad. I never had this before ever and I am terrified! I am going to the emergency room in the morning because I can't deal with this pain any longer. I have been doing sitz bath, heat, compress, and nothing works; it seems it have gotten worse and bigger. I hope the doctor doesn't hurt because the lip hurts.

Comment from: Rayne, 25-34 Female (Patient) Published: December 05

This was my first Bartholin cyst. It was awful. I couldn't walk, sit, lie down, absolutely nothing. I had to take leave from work due to the pain. It was the size of a golf ball. I used tea tree oil and salt in my sitz bath. After 2 days of no change, I slightly changed my method. I used a gauze and applied diluted tea tree oil and olive oil. I also took a shot of apple cider vinegar. It burst 1 hour later. Finally.

No one has mentioned it yet so I'll mention it. I got Bartholin cysts frequently, like every other cycle a week before my period. I found originally that gently washing my lady parts using only bar soap (I only use vegetable soap, don't know if regular soap works as well) and not body wash helped reduce the incidence of them. I later found that birth control works wonders for it. It only happens once a year since I've been on the Depo-Provera shot. I'm here looking for a way to get that down to zero.

Comment from: Gerie, 25-34 Female (Patient) Published: December 02

After researching for hours, and it getting very uncomfortable to walk, I know now the Bartholin cyst needed to be drained. I never heard of a sitz bath before and the second most common thing was witch hazel. I got a cotton ball and rubbed on the bump, and then repeated the same 5 minutes later. Within minutes it popped by itself and leaked quite an amount of discharge, foul smelling. Having noticed maybe the next day, on the other side a very small bump again, I immediately ordered a sitz bath salt online. It is healing, and there is no growth of either.

I've recently developed a Bartholin cyst that has grown increasingly over the course of the past 3 days. I didn't think much of it until it became substantially larger on day 3. I found this forum and all I can say is thank goodness. I'm not one for going to the doctor, therefore decided to try some home remedies! What I found worked for me was sitz bath and a compress rinsed in tea tree oil, salt and hot water. After a few hours my cyst ruptured.

I just had my first Bartholin cyst at 19 years of age. I discovered it on Tuesday and it ruptured this evening (Thursday). It initially was the size of a pea and then grew to about the size of a golf ball. I took a sitz bath and then lay down for a few hours, and it ruptured on its own after that. Very painful. I'm still sore but hopefully the worst of it is over. I called out of work this evening because of the pain, these are no jokes! I'm going to try witch hazel if it still needs to be drained.

Thanks for all the useful feedback on Bartholin cysts. I had a nasty one that made sitting and walking so painful. I was having nausea from the pain. My trusty tea tree oil alone was not enough to reduce the cyst size but Epsom salts in hot water and hot compress really helped. Thanks so much for sharing.

I have had a Bartholin cyst that had just been drained. They stitched part of it and left a bit of a hole, which they said was to drain any excess fluid out (gross, I know). After a week the hole is still quite big, no infection in it. Wonder how long it normally takes to close fully. Bit of an overthinker about these things.

Heat pads work for me. I am 20 years old, 8 months pregnant, and I've had 4 Bartholin cysts. One got drained in the hospital, the others have popped by themselves using heating pads and antibiotics. Not pleasant and the pain can get unbearable. Unfortunately doctors and hospitals can't do much and not much advise on how to prevent them.

I'm 20 years old and this is my first encounter with a Bartholin cyst. I didn't give it much attention at first because I thought it was a simple acne but each day it became excruciating to the point that I can't walk. I tried sitz bath but it didn't work, then antibacterial ointments which didn't help. I tried witch hazel and it works! I soaked a cotton ball in witch hazel and placed it on my BC, sure thing after quite some time it drained. It soothed some of the pain and I have to change it time to time.

I'm 22 years old and recently experienced Bartholin's cyst. About two weeks ago I had a cyst the size of a walnut (very first time) and had it drained by my gynecologist. Felt like a balloon full of water burst on my bottom. I was told it shouldn't come back, and that it should take a week to heal. I waited a week, still felt slightly tender, but nothing I worried about because I was sure it was healing. I had sex about 3 times and now it has come back huge, hard, and hurts bad.

I found a home remedy called Phoebe's cure for Bartholin cyst and that worked. Here is the recipe: 1 oz calamine lotion, 1 tsp tea tree oil, and 1 tsp witch hazel. I made a 6 ounce of it (just multiply each ingredient equally). Pour the solution onto gauze/cotton round and place over cyst; keep it there constantly. The area will become irritated, but that is good. Soon you will be able to apply pressure and the cyst will explode. RELIEF! Keep the area clean, and apply antibiotic once popped, to prevent infection.

Recently I had my first Bartholin cyst. It was infected and abscessed quickly - the antibiotics were too late. I tried all the home remedies and nothing worked. It was the worst pain I have ever been in. I ended up having it drained at my obstetrician/gynecologist's office and it was immediate relief. It's been about two months and it seems like the cyst area is still draining. I haven't been able to stop wearing pantyliners. My doctor says it's healing well, but the draining seems prolonged.

The best way for myself to get rid of a Bartholin cyst was to roll tissue in your hand about 7 to 8 times, put a small amount of warm water on it, and then put a drop or 2 of tea tree oil onto the tissue. I then placed the tissue with warm water and tea tree oil right on the cyst area for about an hour and my cyst drained!

I'm 23 years old and had my first Bartholin cyst. I noticed it a couple of days ago and didn't think much of it; thought it would go away on its own. Then the 3rd day it got very uncomfortable and painful and was a little larger than pea size. This page saved my life. I ended up soaking a cotton pad with witch hazel and put a hot washcloth over it for about 30 minutes. I then changed the pad and left it overnight and when I woke up it had popped. Oh what sweet relief!

Wow! Thank you ladies! This is my 4th Bartholin cyst (BC)and this time it grew huge overnight! The first 3 times I went to the doctor with the painful numbing needles and catheters and gauze which never stayed in, they all fell out; just for the BC to come back again. This time I wanted to avoid the painful needle, so I have seen here witch hazel, tea tree oil, a heat pack, and a warm sitz bath worked well. So I gave it a try. It popped and drained, and no more pain. Thank you!

I want to thank ladybc for the suggestion of using the hand warmers for Bartholin cyst! I only have large heating pads for my neck and shoulders so I was unsure how I would be able to do this. Hand warmers (which I keep on hand) are working amazingly. I did the cotton ball soaked in witch hazel 20 minutes, then heated for half hour and repeated. The second run I had relief. This is my very first experience of this and I was mortified. Thank you all for the comments and advice.

I had the Bartholin cyst for about 6 days. After the second day I was in so much pain I couldn't do anything. I couldn't walk so I was pretty much in a bath constantly. I tried to do the home remedies the ladies suggested but nothing worked for me. On the 6th day the pain was so bad, I couldn't take it so I went to the emergency room for them to drain it. The procedure was the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced. I felt like I was going to pass out. But after it was done, I felt a million times better.

This is my first time having a Bartholin cyst. I've had it for about 3 weeks but I've been inconsistent with my sitz baths. I have been doing witch hazel, coconut oil and Prid, nothing helps. Although it isn't painful, it is really hard. It's like the size of a grape, but I don't think it's infected as I am on antibiotics. I just don't know what to do for it anymore!

I used breast milk for my Bartholin cyst after trying all of the recommendations posted here. And it literally burst within 30 minutes.

I've had Bartholin cysts since I was 17, they turn into golf balls, and the pain is over the top. But I have been suffering for over 8 years now and I just had one a few days ago. When I tell you all I came on here hearing about witch hazel that seemed like it helped everything. At 2:30 this morning I sat in a tub of hot water with salt and I burst it right open. The pain was gone but the stuff that came out of that cyst stank. I'm currently on medicines and ointment finally.

I've been having excruciating pain from the Bartholin cyst, for the last three days. The doctor gave me some antibiotics and pain killers but I was in tears tonight. I read this page and remembered I had some tea tree oil, put it in gauze, held against the lump for a little bit, and then semi-sat on a warm pad. It burst within an hour, and the relief is fantastic. I'll keep on my antibiotics as this will prevent any infections but the pain free feeling is wonderful, thank you to all ladies.

Thank goodness for this website. I'm 26 and had my first Bartholin cyst show up but it was off to the side and up further than the diagrams show. I was getting really stressed about it because it was getting bigger and bigger but after reading all the comments here, I soaked some cotton wool in witch hazel and tea tree oil and applied that for a couple of hours. Then I used a wet face washer with a hot wheat bag over the top for about half an hour and it burst straight after that. It's all gone now!

I didn't have a sitz bath so I filled up warm water in the bath to my hips. I added Epsom salt and tea tree oil to the water for 20 minutes. Afterwards, I applied tree tea oil and coconut oil using a cotton ball. I did the bath routine 4 times a day for 1 and half days. And the tree tea oil and coconut after each time I used the toilet. It burst after 2 days of doing this. Not wearing underwear helped massively too (or preferably it should be cotton to avoid further irritation).

This thing is so painful I can't even imagine! This is my fourth Bartholin cyst and it just started now growing bigger to the size of a golf ball. Sitz bath is the one that helped me for the past cysts and painkiller Ibucare really helped me. I am sure this one will go soon but the pain is just terrible!

Witch hazel, tea tree oil, and calamine lotion on a cotton ball for an hour, warm compresses against the Bartholin gland next to the vaginal opening on the affected side and 3 sitz baths/day for 5 days finally expressed my first, and hopefully last abscess. I used coconut oil to lubricate the swollen area and heating pad to reduce pain. Once bleeding began I used warm compress at the gland to keep it open and lightly pressed on the swollen areas until blood stopped. Cleaned with peroxide and Neosporin. Thank you all for posting! Fingers crossed.

This is the second time I get a Bartholin abscess. First time was 2 years ago, and I had a marsupialization. It became the size of a walnut again a week ago and I wanted to wait for my period to end before going to the doctor. Today it was more painful, so I used hot water and tea tree oil until I saw it coming to a head. Put some pressure on it and it popped! So much blood and pus came out. It's still not done draining, but hope it will heal properly and not come back, at least for a while.

Prid salve worked for Bartholin cyst! I've had to get the cyst drained in the past and started to feel that familiar pain. I found a YouTube post which recommended Prid salve (CVS, Walgreens, etc., - the first aid section, less than USD 10). It worked to relieve the pain by reducing the cyst. Overnight it reduced and even more over 72 hours. It's worth a try. I hope it works for you, too. By the way I have tried it all, tree tea oil, witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, and sitz baths - nothing had worked.

I had a Bartholin cyst this October 2018. Not knowing what it was I squeezed and I used a sterilized needle to pop it. I was so scared but I couldn't take the pain. Then I went to the doctor. She put me on antibiotics and I was fine. Fast forward to September 2019; I have one now. It's the size of a walnut and it hurts so badly. But I have been sitz bathing, using witch hazel on a cotton ball and apple cider vinegar, and the heating pad. The skin seems to be thinning. I'll pop if it doesn't. Awful!

I have tried everything from witch hazel to apple cider vinegar to sitz baths and tea tree oil for my Bartholin cyst. All in combinations and by themselves. The number one product that worked for me was called Prid salve. Use it on a piece of gauze and put it on your lady parts. During the day on a pad, and at night also. Within three days it will be gone. It did for me, finally.

The 1st time I had rubbed the Bartholin cyst raw to the point to where any contact stung me. I got a trick for it. I heated up about a quarter of witch hazel and dissolved a bunch of Epsom salt and turmeric in it, making a thick paste. I applied the paste, got a cotton ball, wet it, poured the Epsom salt on the cotton ball, and applied directly on it. It burned bad but it created a hole to drain. Now my 4th one I broke apart a new cheap razor, numbed the cyst with ice and sliced it open. I reduced the pressure!

I've had my first Bartholin cyst. It is only about the size of a pea but still painful. The doctors gave me antibiotics and it seemed to burst a few days later. I wonder if there will always be a flattish lump where it was or if that is meant to go away.

I have my first Bartholin cyst at age 43. Got it around the 15th/16th and it's now the 29th. I didn't even know it was there till we had sex. I went to the doctor and was told they can drain it or I can try sitz baths and warm compress. It has gotten smaller but still there. It was only painful after sex and since hasn't bothered me unless we have sex. I have been reading all these ladies' treatments and am going to the store to get witch hazel, tea tree and a good probiotic. I also emailed my doctor for antibiotics.

I tried everything to make my golf size Bartholin cyst go away, but nothing worked. So, I scheduled an appointment with the gynecologist, she drained it right then, and let me tell you that it was the worst pain ever. It took like 10 minutes but it felt like an eternity. A catheter was put inside my gland to help it drain but it fell the very next day. The pain is gone but after the surgery my Bartholin gland is the size or a marble, I wonder if is still healing.

This thread on Bartholin cyst was so helpful to me. I was doing Epsom salt baths 3 times a day until I read these comments. Then I tried the witch hazel with heat for 30 minutes and within 24 hours my cyst had drained. Thank you to everyone who posted. I had no idea what these cysts were until one showed up and they're just awful! It was nice to know I was not alone in dealing with it.

I have had Bartholin cysts for the last few years and I am 19 now. The first time I had one it was not painful at all, I put on it a rag as hot as I possibly could, and it popped. A year later I had another one that became painful and was definitely infected, I could not even move. I had to go to the gynecologist to get it lanced which was one of the most painful things in my life. Now I seem to get one every few months and I'm able to get it to burst with hot sitz baths and hot rags. Hope this helps!

I've had the Bartholin cyst 4 times since 2018! The 1st one came and went away on its own, the 2nd I went to the emergency room and they cut, drained it, and packed it with gauze, then took it out 2 days later. The 3rd time I was at school and the doctor in the infirmary cut and drained it! Now I'm on the 4th go round and I've taken antibiotics, used Prid which has helped bring it to a head, witch hazel, and A and D ointment, all with a hot towel to compress. I'm hoping that this pops while I'm asleep tonight.

I live in the UK. The general physician gave me antibiotics for my Bartholin cyst. Gynecology clinic checked the lump and decided to keep me on antibiotics. It worsened. Two days later the clinic checked the lump again and decided I should have surgery (marsupialization). I opted for waiting for 2 days to see if it would burst by itself. Combination of antibiotics, witch hazel compress, sitting in half full bath tub popped it. Doctor said I would fully recover without surgery. Word catheter is not offered at my hospital.

I had an abscessed Bartholin cyst about 5 years ago. So incredibly painful. I got a fever from the infection and was taking hot Epsom salt baths multiple times a day while on antibiotics. This is maybe too much information but by the 4th or 5th day I got it to burst from an orgasm (an external orgasm... the internal muscle contractions made it burst). I stood up and felt a rush of fluid and ran to the bathroom... blood and pus everywhere but instant relief.

I am 29 and had a Bartholin cyst 3 months ago, it was swollen and tender but not super painful. It burst on its own after about 3 days. I now have one again in the same spot, it has been 5 days, and the last 2 days have been the worst. Today I couldn't go to work because I can't bear the pain with clothes on or standing/walking. It is unbelievable. Lying down with a heat pack is best. My general physician sent me for an ultrasound and prescribed antibiotics and said that should help it go down.

I'm 26 and just had my first Bartholin cyst (BC). I don't have insurance so didn't want to see a doctor. I tried all the home remedies to no avail. Today marks the 8th day of my BC and I couldn't even walk this morning and cried so hard from the pain. I finally went to my local urgent care. I paid USD 60 and they lanced it right there. Extremely painful but procedure was quick and I feel exponentially better. I would suggest antibiotics then urgent care if it doesn't get better.

I've been taking multiple hot baths a day, using my heating pad, and using witch hazel on a cotton pad (but I just rub the area for a minute). It's been a few days and the Bartholin cyst is still pretty big and so painful to where it's almost just completely unbearable. I'm not sure what else to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I got my first Bartholin cyst recently, 7/12/19. I went to the emergency room, got it drained and the little catheter put in. I was a walking blimp and it went away only for a little while. I was on antibiotics by the advice of the doctor, and I did everything, now it has come back. I haven't been sexually active or anything. Honestly I don't feel good about this. I know it can happen but I'm scared now. I don't know about surgery and the first one wasn't painful, this one isn't painful, but I'm getting sharp pains.

I am actually in a sitz bath right now hoping for the best. This is my second Bartholin cyst. My first happened when I was pregnant last year. I had to go to the emergency room to have it drained as it had grown so rapidly within the space of a week. It was excruciating but after the catheter fell out it was fine. I've just been to my doctor now and hopefully this time it'll burst by itself and I won't have to go through that again.

I've had reoccurring Bartholin cysts for the past 9 years. Extremely painful and I have never had one rupture on its own until this morning. I'd had it for about 4 days, and I had been using Epsom salt baths, turmeric extract and tea tree oil extract on it constantly. Finally this morning I saw a bruised head to the ping pong ball sized cyst right where the duct is naturally supposed to be. Shaking from the pain I squeezed in a last ditch attempt and it ruptured! All on its own. No surgery required.

This is my 3rd Bartholin cyst in the last 5 years and they are terribly painful for me. This last one that came about 2 days ago was so painful that I was contemplating going to the hospital. I began to read the helpful stories, went to the store, purchased witch hazel and used it. After a little over an hour the cyst popped, thank the heavens. If you haven't tried please use witch hazel it really works.

My Bartholin cyst was too early to be drained out so the gynecologist gave me pain killers and sent me home. After the emergency room I did a sitz bath with a cup of Epsom salts for about 40 minutes. When I stood up, it had popped and was clearing out. I still had a bump in there though. I applied some tea tree oil to keep the bacteria out and then applied witch hazel. When I went to urinate, another one popped (I don't know if there were two or it was the same one). Try these three! Advil did nothing to me.

I've had a Bartholin cyst approximately 4 or 5 months ago and I figured it was a hormonal problem. It got to the size of about a marble and I was able to pop it and clean it on my own. I'm just finding out about the witch hazel and heating pad. Literally just scrolled past this thread and I feel so relieved because I thought I had some rare condition. Anyway, for the past week or so I've had it reappear and popped it. I wonder if there is any way to avoid it from happening again.

This is my second Bartholin cyst in 4 months. The pain in unbearable, one of the worst things I've ever had to deal with. My first one popped on its own after about a week. This one started about a week ago but still hasn't popped. I'm doing sitz baths, warm compresses, and hopefully going to try witch hazel today. Doctor was no help, just sent me home to wait it out.

This thread was such a saving grace for me! I had my first experience with Bartholin cyst in April about three months ago (I'm 24). I was waiting for the first instance to pop but it ended up just shrinking and becoming nearly nonexistent. I left for a two week trip about two months later and it came back 3 times worse than it had been before. I tried a lot of the coconut oil and witch hazel, but the real difference maker for me was a sitz bath and some Advil!

Comment from: Abbe , 35-44 Female (Patient) Published: July 23

Homemade kefir! I've had the same Bartholin cyst for months. Sitz baths and other home remedies reduced the size but it never completely goes away. I did some research on probiotics and kefir has more good bacteria strains than yogurt, Kombucha, or store bought kefir. Also unlike yogurt, the bacteria in kefir colonizes and builds up in your body. I bought kefir grains and have been culturing kefir. The cyst is barely noticeable after a month.

My Bartholin cyst was not painful at all, sitz baths and witch hazel worked for me. My cyst ruptured on the third day (it was the size of a pea).

I just had my second worst Bartholin abscess to date and was on the verge of seeking medical treatment. I did sitz baths 4 to 6 times per day for several days, apple cider vinegar applied to the cyst, hot rags, heating pads, etc. I started using Phoebe's cure yesterday and it finally burst this morning after unbearable pain for almost three days. This is the first time I tried it. It may have just been a coincidence that it started draining, but when applied it had a soothing effect so I think it is worth a try regardless.

I am 23 years old and I have had a Bartholin cyst for maybe two years now. Within the past 48 hours I've come to realize this is what I have been trying to find and fix. My obstetrician/gynecologist couldn't figure it out and I'm in physiotherapy and they thought it was a knot/cramp. I hardly notice the cyst is there unless I am engaging in sexual activity.

I'm 47 and was diagnosed with a Bartholin cyst. I was nervous because I noticed a large lump in my vaginal wall, but I couldn't see it externally. It hurt to sit. I went to the gynecologist and upon examination she knew it was a Bartholin cyst and prescribed a strong antibiotic that starts with a C, I forget the name but it is 500 mg 4 times a day for a week. The swelling is going down and the antibiotic is giving me a headache and digestive issues.

After a few days of extreme discomfort, I applied turmeric and pure coconut oil mixture to my Bartholin cyst. I warmed the mixture slightly in a spoon over the stove and applied it right before sleeping at night. When I woke up it had burst on its own and drained quite a bit. It didn't mess the sheets luckily. It was the greatest relief since I had a dreaded appointment for drainage which I cancelled. I will still go in for a checkup on Monday but it already feels so much better and the pain is down. Do try.

I got my 1st Bartholin cyst in the year 2016 and it is the most painful thing. I am afraid to undergo a surgery, but because of such pain I went to a doctor, and he just recommended me to do sitz bath and gave me antibiotics and pain reliever. Days after that, it burst and the pain was gone. I had it many times, and sadly it comes back, and I don't know what I should do to avoid. I have it right now.
