I had the barium swallow on Thursday. The chalky drink wasn’t that bad but the fizzy drink made me feel a bit sick. It’s now Saturday morning and I keep getting sweats, feel nauseous, have a bloated belly that looks pregnant, and a little stomach cramp so far. I’ve been drinking loads of water and now feel constipated. I took two laxative drinks yesterday, hope it goes soon.

Nothing showed up in my barium swallow test - no hiatal hernia, no acid reflux, everything normal. Acid reflux probably not showing up due to the medications that I am taking. I have a CT scan of the abdomen scheduled next week. The pain in my abdomen after the procedure is miserable. Not sure if it is from the stuff you drink to create air in your stomach or if it is the barium. All I know is 7 hours later I still feel horrible.

Barium swallow test showed I had a small hiatal hernia and everything else was fine.

I have no significant signs of any major problems but now that I have had the barium swallow test done I cannot get rid of the pain running across my stomach area and through my back between my shoulder blades. I would have thought after 2 weeks this should be cleared up by now.

I had the barium swallow with a small intestine follow through, I think at least 16 oz of the drink. I was fine for first and second day but on the third day I awoke with stomach cramps relieved with defecation but which returned when sitting. I have a mild form of diverticulitis. While my stools are returning to color the second day, I'm wondering if some of that chalk is trapped in my diverticula and will harden. I'm forcing plenty of water. I think this is why barium enemas have been replaced by colonoscopies.

Well, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. The barium swallow test went well during and immediately afterward. The test was done today at approximately 11 am (my appointment time). The test took approximately 30 minutes. It was later, the same evening, approximately 7:30 pm, that I had maize-yellow bowel movement (BM). After this BM, I have had numerous diarrhea episodes which have been the same maize-yellow color. I was not given possible side effects nor any instructions of drinking more water, or anything of the sort. Night's not over yet... ugh!

I had a barium swallow test and that same night I developed stomach cramps, nausea, and watery diarrhea. After 14 days of vomiting and extreme diarrhea, I had to be admitted to hospital for dehydration. I also noticed hair loss the second week.

The barium swallow was fine. The constipation and flatulence afterwards was painful and embarrassing. Finally it moved after 5 days and laxative. Solid stools that could not be flushed! Be warned.

The test revealed a hiatal hernia, but the worst part of the process was not being advised of the problems with constipation afterwards.

I had the barium swallow test yesterday. It revealed a large hiatal hernia and acid reflux. I was already put on the waiting list for a fundoplication operation.

I had a barium meal and swallow. The results came back revealing acid reflux, but I can’t put my mind to rest. I worry about esophageal cancer.
