I had constipation big time after my barium swallow test. It is a metal that you are ingesting.

I have unrelenting diarrhea after my barium swallow test. The test was done Saturday around 2 pm, it is now Tuesday night and diarrhea is still a problem, but I am out of pain from a blockage that passed. And I mean the worst pain I have ever known. So thank you doctors and nurses. A restriction was found where the stomach connects to the small bowel, so will see the doctor about this issue tomorrow.

Two days after the barium swallow test I experienced extreme acid reflux. I had it come back every day until last night when I experienced the worst pain I have ever endured. Now I am afraid to even eat anything. Tough way to do a diet.

I wonder what can interfere with the barium swallow test, I have had this test come up normal before and it caused a dangerous problem with not diagnosing me till it was almost too late.

Yes, when I had the barium swallow test I was telling the nurse who stood in the room I was hurting and she kept telling me to hold on. Since that day I have constant abdominal pain, swelling and my stomach looks off-center. I tell everyone not to get this test done. Try to go another route. They had me drink all the stuff beforehand instead of during the procedure.

The night after the barium swallow, I became hyperglycemic. My blood sugar went as high as 557 and blood pressure 227 I thought I was going into a diabetic coma. I ended up in the emergency room (ER). So the barium actually causes the blood sugar to elevate and I was never told of that and no precautionary measure was done. Based on the reviews, a lot of people end up in the ER after this test. I am scheduled to do it again and now I hesitate.

I had a barium swallow. I had the same test last year and they found a hiatal hernia but today it seems that it is large, and I have ulcer and reflux. Since this morning I have been vomiting, and I am in streams of pain above my stomach and lower. I have not be able to use the bathroom since 7:00 am, and right now it is 2:00 pm. I have lots of acid reflux, heartburn and lots of gas, hopefully it will stop or I will be going to the emergency room. I know surgery is going to be done, that's why the test was needed.
