My barium enema? procedure was not painful (it was an immediate follow-up to a colonoscopy, because I have a very long and tortuous colon which can't be properly seen without the additional barium. But, I also had barium leakage afterwards. I had trouble with continuing leakage after the 2-day preparation for colonoscopy, so had asked for extra pads when I first got to the hospital. They gave me 3, so that also took care of me after the barium enema.

The barium enema was very painful. I felt very nauseous and begged them to stop, but they continued until it was finished. It's been 2 weeks and I have been having pain in my abdomen. It's been hard to have bowel movements since then. I don't think I will ever let them do that procedure again.

Barium enema was the worst test I have had done. It did hurt, it was the pressure inside. Then having to move from my back to the left side, then stomach, and then the right side on this hard table. Also it took 90 minutes, and by the time I left I was depressed. I was like that for a few days. And they took so many pictures. Good luck if you have to have it done.

Barium enema is a bad enema type. I would never prefer it to others. I got skin marks and my complexion changed to melasma skin marks.

I had a barium enema this morning. Oh my goodness, I was in so much pain, I told them I couldn't go any further, but I did manage to get it done; oh my it was horrible.

When the barium enema procedure was finished the barium was only partially drained from my bottom. On the way home I thought I was passing gas and my pants were full of the barium solution. Why didn't the doctor tell me this could happen! I was glad I drove myself, it would have been very embarrassing if it had happened in a friend’s car!

The barium enema hurt when it went in too deep.
